Food supplement E122 – Plants are one of the most common food additives. There are both natural dyes, for example, beet juice, and synthetic ones. In the modern food industry, paints are used to attract the attention of consumers and increase the attractiveness of the product due to its appearance. And most often this happens to the detriment of the health of the buyer.
One of the brightest representatives of dyes is the food additive E122. This is a typical synthetic additive that is not found in nature in its pure form and is synthesized in the laboratory. Food additive E122 – azorubine – is produced by processing coal tar. And this substance is added to the food that we eat. Azorubine is used to give foods a red color.
Most of all, azorubine is used in the production of juices: cherry, pomegranate, and any other that have bright, saturated colors. Azorubine is also used in the confectionery industry – various kinds of desserts, jams, syrups, marmalades, sweets, cakes, and pastries. Carbonated drinks of red color and their shades allegedly “based on natural juice” of fruits and berries – all contain E122 dye.

Food supplement E122: effect on the body
Food additive 122 is a typical pesticide of the modern food industry. Azorubin causes harm to the body at a deep level, and the consequences of this effect may not appear immediately. However, in most cases, with regular use, the consequences in the form of a rash on the body appear fairly quickly. And a rash on the body is a rather serious signal that the body is intoxicated, which is trying to remove toxins through the skin, and clogging of the pores leads to the formation of a rash. This seemingly harmless symptom is actually a serious cause for concern.
E122 is especially dangerous for people prone to respiratory diseases and bronchial asthma.
Also, E122 is dangerous for children. Like its analogs – synthetic dyes – it leads to destabilization of the child’s psyche, hyperactivity disorder, and decreased alertness. Therefore, before scolding a child for poor school performance and bad behavior, you should first pay attention to what you feed him. If the child’s diet contains a high percentage of various sweets and synthetic products containing many harmful food additives, then school failure is only a consequence of malnutrition.
Azorubin is widely used in cosmetology and and perfumery and can cause various allergic reactions with internal and external manifestations. Unlike natural dyes, such as juices of vegetables and herbs, synthetic dyes cannot cause harm to the body, as they are substances unusual for our bodies. After all, if a substance is absent in nature, then our body is simply not adapted to process it. Therefore, it is better to make a choice in favor of natural cosmetics and natural food products. It is a mistake to believe that there is some small harmless dose of synthetic dyes: in a smaller amount they only cause less harm, but no more.
The harm of the food additive E122 is recognized in a number of countries: Great Britain, Japan, Austria, Norway, Canada, America, and Sweden. This is an incomplete list of countries in which the food additive E122 is recognized as a poison and banned for use in the food industry.
Despite this, in the CIS countries, the E122 additive is still considered acceptable for use in food products. However, the harmful effect that it has on the body is so great that even the World Health Organization was forced to recognize its toxicity and set the daily intake of this poison – 4 mg per kilogram of body weight. Considering that children are often consumers of sweets and other harmful products, I would like to note that the dosages contained in products can be very detrimental to their health.
